Dear Parents,
Please note that this week there will be no spellings sent home as we are drawing closer to the end of the year. A few parents have asked me to recommend some good websites for Grade 3, I have asked Mr Big C to support me with this and he has recommended the following: http://interactivesites.weebly.com/ https://www.education.com/slideshow/third-grade-apps/ Paid Apps for Literacy http://www.teachthought.com/pedagogy/literacy/15-of-the-best-educational-apps-for-improved-reading-comprehension/ Paid Apps for Numeracy https://www.bestappsforkids.com/category/apps-by-age-grade/3rd-grade/ Maths: This week in Maths the children will be looking at directions; they will begin by using positional language and they will then move onto compass work using North, South, West and East. Further to that they will then begin to look at angles discussing right angles and the terminology ‘clock wise’ and ‘anti clockwise’ it should be an excellent learning week full of pirate treasure maps and a connection to role models across the world. Unit of Inquiry: This week a child brought in a book about Nelson Mandela which the children have taken a keen interest in. They have learnt about many different role models and they will now start to inquire into their own role models and they will create a presentation to feedback to the class as well as their own book. Step Up Day is this Monday where the children will meet their friends in their class, it should be an exciting time for them! Any questions, please do not hesitate to ask, Miss Stacey Dear Parents,
This week will be the last week for spellings in Grade 2. We will then collect up their homework books and get them ready for your child to take home along with their other books so that they can look over all of their hard work in Grade 2. This Thursday the school will be contacting you to let you know which class your child will be in and who their teacher will be. Further to that, on Monday they will meet their new class and go with their new friends to their Grade 3 class. They may get a chance to meet their new teacher and if their teacher is a new member of the GWA community then they will have a picture of their teacher and a message from them! Exciting times for the Grade 2 pupils! Many thanks, Stacey
Dear Parents, Ramadan Kareem to all of our Muslim families! As I am sure that you are aware the school ours are from 8:15-1:15. As per normal the drop off is in the gym and the pick-up is from the classroom-thank you. If your child is fasting for a particular time of the day or partaking in fasting, then please do let me know so that I can make any accommodations necessary. Maths: This week in Maths the children will continue with division they now understand the concept of division as sharing and if they are ready they will look at long division and different methods for this. They will understand that division is the inverse of multiplication and they will start to implement this when problem solving. Unit of Inquiry: In our Unit of Inquiry this week, we are really breaking down what a role model is. The children (hopefully you saw this on seesaw) said who their role models were, lots of children picked a celebrity as their role model such a Katy Perry etc. We are now going to look into historical role models from the past and introduce the children to them and compare them to their current role models e.g. Martin Luther King. We also have a really exciting talk from Andy Mac who competed for Great Britain at Olympic level for the Iron Man champions. He will be talking to the children about having a dream and following it. It should be a great time for the children to really focus on what really is a role model and what are they key attributes and characteristics that define a role model. Language: We will be finishing off our King Arthur stories this week, which (hopefully) will include direct speech and paragraphing. As well some top quality narrative writing! In addition to this we will also start biography writing, we will be looking at a different variety of biographies and identifying key features which we can then use to create our own. As always if you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask me, Many thanks, Miss Stacey Please find the link on the right to the Ramadan timetable which starts on Sunday, any questions please do not hesitate to ask.
Many thanks, Miss Stacey Dear Parents,
This week we will continue with our assessments and gathering the data ready for the end of the year. As we have had MAPS and assessments last week we didn't quite get through all of our content and learning last week so we will continue with our learning from last week. If your child missed their MAPS test then they will have a chance to resit their make up test at the following times: Reading: Sunday 10:45-11:45 Math: Monday 10:45-11:45 We have the swimming gala on Monday (please see the information below) please please make sure that your child has their swimming kit with them for this day. All parents are welcome to come and watch but they must remain in the spectators section. I am looking forward to seeing you there. This week we start our new Unit of Inquiry ‘Who We Are’ the children will be exploring role models. This week we will begin to sort who role models are to them at the moment, who role models are in society and look at different role models around the world. They will write the characteristics of role models and attributes and begin to explore the language of the central idea “choices of role models reflect the beliefs and values of individuals and societies’. For maths we will continue with division and for Language we will continue with King Arthur and the sword in the stone writing alongside assessments. As always if you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask me. Best wishes, Stacey Dear Parents,
My apologies for the late weekly update! This week is our last week for Where We Are in Place and Time! We will be looking at the different things that civilizations have contributed to our present day society and we will be using a diamond ranking to sort these into most important and least important using the children's verbal reasoning skills to explain their thinking. In language, we will continue our work with King Arthur and the sword and the stone. The children will rewrite the story changing a familiar item 'such as he pulled out a chocolate bar' out of the stone. They will focus on paragraphing and using speech marks in their work. In math, we continue to practice "equal sharing" and division skills, using arrays, skip-counting, grouping and repeated subtraction as strategies to help us. We will also focus on language and decoding word problems. Over the course of this week and next week, we will be completing end-of-year in-class assessments as well. As always, thank you for your continued support at home. Announcements/Reminders:
