I hope you all enjoyed the long weekend. This week is a short week with only 3 + 1/2 days. Here are some of the events that will be happening this week. Due to the holidays there will be no new spelling list set. Tuesday 13th December- 2AO will visit the Winter Festival. Children are allowed to bring 10-15 AED if they would like to purchase a pancake. Tues 13th & Wed 14th December- Grade 2 will be taking part in their MAP testing. Any children missing will have a chance to take them during the first week back. Thursday 15th December- Students may wear ‘festive’ dress to school, this is a Non-uniform Day PreK-12. Thursday 15th December - Students will be dismissed at 12:00pm. Monday 2nd January- First day back to school - Day 2 Home Learning ProjectsWe have had a few home learning projects in so far and are looking forward to seeing many more after the Winter Break. We are encouraging children to collect pictures of signs, symbols and icons they seeing during the break. If you are going to an airport or another country it would be wonderful to see some examples from around the world. Sign LanguageAfter the break we will be finding out about specialised forms of communication such as 'sign language'. If you are familiar with sign language or know of anyone who is we would love for a visitor to share their knowledge with the class. *Please contact me if you would be able to help out. Winter CelebrationThank you so much to Marama and Dalia for organising the class Winter Celebration! The chidlren had a super time making glitter slim; eating ice cream; taking photos and playing Bingo! They looked absolutely amazed when they saw the slim and were so excited when they realised that they could take it home. Please enjoy the photos below, I love the expressions on their faces. The class celebration will take place from 12:30-1:30 tomorrow, Monday 12th. If you can make it, it would be lovely to see you there.
Spellings This weeks spellings will use the oo sounds - oo & -ew. Language We shall continue to work with non-fiction books with an emphasis on Procedural Texts (instructions). This week the class will compare instructions, find out what makes a good instruction and identify powerful vocabulary for creating instructions. Maths We are investigating time, the class have been finding out the meaning of words such as: decade, century, millennium, punctual, They are also investigating how to use analogue clocks to tell the time. All of the class will learn how to tell the time by the hour and half past the hour. Some children will go beyond this and find out about quarter past, quarter too and even investigate the minutes on a clock. UOI The class were excited and motivated by the introduction to the new unit of inquiry on Signs and Symbols. They had many interesting ideas about the purpose of signs and symbols and how they are used to organize humans. This week curiosity will be developed further by defining what a sign is and what a symbol is. They will also search for signs and symbols around the school and identify what they are in place for. National Day - enjoy our pictures!4th to 7th December - Bookworm Fair - book purchase is available after school for children who are picked up, if your child travels to and from school on the bus we are happy to take them to purchase a book if you wish (please let me know in advance book expectations).
***If you are happy for your child to independently choose a book to buy, please send them to school with their money and we will take them to the book fair.
