This weeks' learning... UOI This is our last week on Signs and Symbols (How we organize ourselves). We have learned so much from this unit, the children are now becoming experts at spotting and interpreting signs and symbols around them. This week they have walked around the school identifying areas that would benefit from new signs/ symbols. The children have come up with all sorts of creative ideas such as:

They have been experimenting with using them to change their voices slightly while reading. They have extended their knowledge from using only 'said ...' to
The children have also had a go at using them to add conversation to their own writing. This has been a good focus in both reading and writing. Spelling Words ending in -el Reading Please could I ask you to help your children remember to bring their books for book change on Sundays and Thursdays? For our unit How We Organize Ourselves, Grade 4 has been learning about market economies. To apply what they have learned, they will be putting on their very own souk! We would love it if you could join and offer your support by purchasing the various goods and services that will be on offer.

This is used to compare their progress in Grade 2. Spelling: words ending in -le Reading: We are concentratin on using non-fiction books to gain information. Children are also using them to learn the key features of how non-fiction texts are set out differently to fiction books. If you are reading a non-fiction book with your child at home, please see if they can identify some of the following: title page, contents, index, heading, subheading, text, caption, label, diagram, picture Writing: The class are working on editing and improving writing by checking for correct spelling; use of adjectives; use of connectives; punctuation and adding extra details.
