Dear Parents,
Ramadan Kareem to all of our Muslim families!
If your child is fasting for a particular time of the day or partaking in fasting, please drop me an email to let me know so that I can make any accommodations necessary.
Maths: This week in Maths we will continue with division we now understand the concept of division as sharing but are still learning to decode the language of division in word problems. We will also revisit chance and probability, both using language and fractions to represent the probability of occurances.
Unit of Inquiry: In our Unit of Inquiry this week, we are really breaking down what a role model is. Last week we read about Rosa Parks and Anne Frank. Students have also expressed an interest in Malala and Gandhi based on our unit books, so we will inquire into them as role models this week. Following that, next week we will learn about contemporary role models and dissect how and why athletes, scientists, entrepreneurs, social workers, artists, authors, etc. can be role models based on their attitudes, actions, choices, and achievements. We also have a really exciting talk from Andy Mac who competed for Great Britain at Olympic level for the Iron Man champions. He will be talking to the children about having a dream and following it. It should be a great time for the children to really focus on what really is a role model and what are they key attributes and characteristics that define a role model.
Language: In addition to this we will also start biography writing. We will be looking at a different variety of biographies and identifying key features which we can then use to create our own, reflecting on how we can be role models even as young children. Please have a look at the graphic organizers below to get a sense of how we will be studying and dissecting biographies.
As always if you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask me,
Warm regards,
Bhavna
