Dear Parents,
I hope your children went home and were able to tell you something interesting about our field trip last week. The Suruq al Hadid museum was truly a relevant and educational experience which gave us some insight into a recently discovered archeological site of what seems like an Iron Age civilization in the UAE. I will upload a few photos later this week. We also have some good shots of students working in the Marker Space, making jewelry, clay pots, and weapons from the Maya Civilization.
This morning we had a fire drill with the Civil Defense Department whereby a real fire and injuries were simulated. Some of the students may go home and relate this experience to you.
In language we continue to look at myths and fables. This week we will begin using a story map organizer to plan our narrative after studying the heroic legends of Theseus, Perseus, and Hercules. Our story map will help us develop our characters, incorporate supernatural elements or a gift from the gods, develop a conflict involving a creature/monster, and coming up with a resolution. This will be ongoing until we are ready to publish.
In math we continue to work on multiplication skills, practicing how to decode word problems and applying multiplication in real life scenarios.
Our inquiry into ancient civilizations this week will have us learning about the Ancient Egyptians - their daily lives, customs and practice, structures and roles in society, and contributions/inventions. As we learn more, we will begin to compare/contrast similarities and differences between ancient civilizations and make connections to how present-day societies function and are structured.
Announcements/Reminders:
As always, your continued support at home is much appreciated.
Warm regards,
Bhavna
