Dear Parents,
I hope it was a lovely long weekend for everyone. We have a short and busy week with a field trip scheduled for tomorrow. We will be visiting the Suruq Al Hadid archaeology museum where the children will be learning about the Bedouin Civilization and going on their very own archeological dig!
In Language this week the children will continue to look at mythical tales before attempting to create one of their own next week. Today we read and watched a short animation about Persephone whose story is used in Greek mythology to explain why we have seasons. We are in the process of recounting her story and will revisiting how to write a good recount with this fiction piece.
In Math this week we continue on our multiplication learning journey, delving into using skip counting and equal grouping as methods to support multiplication. If you get any spare time please do practice your child’s times tables with them and using the different methods. Students are expected to be comfortable with their times tables for 2s, 5,s and 10s.
Unit of Inquiry: Towards the end of last week, we looked at the social structure and hierarchy of Ancient Egypt. This week we will read about the Romans/Greeks and Mayans to compare/contrast how their hierarchy was similar or different. As we continue to do this, we will eventually get to reflecting on modern civilization and trying to understand the different ways in which our societies are structured today - is there a clear hierarchy anymore? Which factors influence this?
