Dear Parents,
We have another fun activity coming up this week. On Tuesday the children have a football/handball team games from 8am-10am. Please ensure that your child has a water bottle, hat, a t-shirt in their house color, and their regular PE shorts please. It should be an exciting time!
In literacy this week we will look at how authors use descriptive language to express feelings. We will be focusing on the model of ‘show me, don’t tell me’ e.g. 'I was hungry' can be expressed more colorfully by saying 'My stomach was rumbling like 1000 giants stomping on the clouds.'
In math this week we are focusing on solving story and word problems by analyzing and decoding mathematical language. The children will be reading the question, extracting the data and then answering the calculation with the emphasis being on identifying key vocabulary and showing how they solved their calculation.
Vocabulary for addition include - sum, together, total, altogether, add, both, in all, plus, increased by, join, etc.
Vocabulary for subtraction include - difference, how many more, take away, are not, less than, fewer, have left, change, how much more, etc.
In Unit of Inquiry this week we have our final week of How We Express Ourselves. Students will created a final piece of art with a message, expression or feeling that they want to express. We will then show our art to students in 2PH and ask them to try and guess what they were trying to express using our knowledge of the elements of art.
Today we will also pay a little visit to 2TO where Ms. Tracey will be running a guided lesson on dance and performance as a form of artistic expression.
As always if you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me.
Warm regards,
Bhavna
