Dear Parents,
Hopefully you will have received positive feedback from your child about their experience during the first week of school. We have a full class of 24 students with an equal balance of boys and girls. While last week's focus was on getting to know each other, talking about expectations, familiarizing ourselves with new friends and facilities, and generally getting back into the swing of things, this week will shift our focus to beginning to access the grade 2 curriculum. In order for us to do that, we need to assess your child on reading, writing, spelling, and math skills. Our focus this week will be on getting the assessments done as well as beginning our first unit discussion. A curriculum map will follow shortly to give you an overview of the unit as well as where and how different subjects and specialists fit in to the learning over the next 5 weeks.
Information regarding Parent Night can be found in the post below this one. A few things to note before we meet on Wednesday:
Warm regards,

Information regarding Parent Night can be found in the post below this one. A few things to note before we meet on Wednesday:
- My hope and assumption is that one member from each family will be able to make it to the session. This will make it much easier for all of us to start the year on the same page. If you are unable to make it, please let me know via email.
- Thank you for making such an effort to be punctual in the mornings. This week onwards, all children are expected to meet me or Ms. Claire in the gym at 7:45. Those who show up at 8 a.m. or later will miss our morning announcements as well as potentially lose the class line leaving from the gym on days we go directly to specialists, effectively missing out on a portion of the lesson.
- If you haven't already returned an envelope addressed to your child, please try to do so this week. We will begin reading/sharing some of our letters in front of the class or in small groups tomorrow.
- I know many of you are eagerly awaiting information about homework expectations. Let's discuss on Wednesday :)
- 2BS will need a call parent representative to help us liaise certain classroom activities/celebrations (winter and end-of-year parties, etc) as well as any other events that come up involving the whole class community. If you are interested in volunteering for the task, please drop me an email to let me know. If there is interest from multiple parties, I can only realistically assign the role to one primary contact for communication/liaising convenience. If there is no interest from anyone, I may approach a few parents and keep my fingers crossed!
- Just a gentle reminder: Our Eid holiday period is around the corner. School will likely be shut between 9th-13th of September but we are still waiting for an official confirmation.
- We are awaiting a MAP testing schedule for the beginning of the year. Chances are we may begin our MAP tests later this week. There is no preparation required for this.
- The classroom timetable has a small change to it. If you have a look at Day 3 on the one printed out for you, the first two periods have been switched. This means we will begin all Day 3s with PE followed by UOI.
Warm regards,
Bhavna
